I’ve talked about starting a podcast for years.
-
April 24, 2021: I bought three Kindle books on podcasting. I read half of one. Not because it was bad — that half was actually pretty good. I just didn’t take action.
-
November 27, 2022: Black Friday. Bought another Kindle book. Still didn’t take action.
They just sat there collecting dust. Well… virtual dust.
Why?
Because I was feeding one of my chickens: Analysis Paralysis Polly.
Polly loves to research. She loves to plan. She loves to analyze.
Polly hates to execute.
I’d Been Here Before
It was the same story with my book Fry Your Chickens! — I talked about writing it for years. Then one day I said:
“This is the quarter, dammit.”
I took fast, imperfect action.
And what do you know? It worked.
So I tried the same approach with the podcast.
What Polly Hates: Action
Instead of buying another book, I made a list of people I’d like to interview.
I asked AI for help setting it up.
I figured out how to:
-
Record (Zoom)
-
Edit (iMovie)
-
Stage it (Spotify for Podcasters — free version)
-
Clip highlights (Opus Clip)
Then I recorded Episode One. And Episode Two. I reached out to friends. We hit record. We had fun.
Did it all go smoothly?
Well… my LinkedIn Live launch was a bit of a train wreck.
But I kept going. My first guest, Leslie Hughes, and I had a great conversation. It wasn’t live — but it was a great first episode.
What It Really Took
Not another book.
Not another course.
Not another quarter of “thinking about it.”
Just a decision. One sentence:
“This is the quarter, dammit.”
Action. Momentum. Joy.
The Fry Your Chickens Podcast
The podcast is called Fry Your Chickens.
Each episode features someone who overcame their inner chicken — fear, perfectionism, procrastination — and did something big. AND they’re helping others do the same.
We laugh a lot.
We learn a lot.
And we inspire others to hit record on their own dream.
Final Thought
Polly didn’t stand a chance. Because I took action. And it’s like geometry:
Polly-gone.
(One of the worst dad jokes I’ve ever written. I’m so proud.)
Your Turn
Where is Analysis Paralysis Polly holding you back?
What idea have you been researching, refining, and “getting ready” to maybe try someday?
Pick one.
Say it with me:
“This is the quarter, dammit.”
Then take one step.
Hit record. Ship the draft. Ask the question. Make the call. Fry Polly.
Because momentum > perfection.
And you’ve got something great to share.
